Project Manager
Job Description:
BBI is currently looking for a Project Manager with field biology experience to work in a full-time salaried position. The successful applicant will manage biological consulting projects addressing environmental impact, avoidance, minimization, and mitigation solutions for environmental resources in areas including, but not limited to threatened and endangered species, sensitive habitats, nesting species, vegetation, watershed, and wildlife interactions with energy infrastructure.
Specific responsibilities will include designing and implementing field studies to evaluate environmental resources in accordance with established guidelines, as required by the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and other environmental regulations. Additional responsibilities include managing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and map preparation and conducting geospatial and statistical analyses for field studies and technical reports.
This work requires knowledge of and demonstrated skill in the fields of Ecology or Biology, Data Management, Applied Statistics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Project Management. Familiarity with the following specialized software is required: R Statistics, Quantum GIS (QGIS), ArcGIS Desktop (ESRI) including ArcGIS Pro with 3D analyst is desired but not a requirement. This is a remote position. Applicant should assume a full-time office schedule is desired with the small potential for field work.
Responsibilities:
· Manage multi-disciplinary projects: develop and manage project proposals, budgets, staffing and scheduling, and preparation of technical reports. Provide timely, high-quality work products that achieve client goals.
Company-wide lead for developing and responding to RFQ’s and RFI’s. Producing cost estimates and scope of work for various clients.
· Translate biological concepts into technical requirements, understand geospatial data systems, permitting, statistical and analytical concepts, and communicate how they work in lay terms to clients and staff.
Maintain company wide data systems and organization; communicate with all sub consultants and vendors, maintain contractual paperwork and client required documentation.
Responsibilities may also include conducting or creating biological field surveys/schedules, preparation of biological resource assessment documents, preparation of biological constraint/impact reports, regulatory permit preparation and coordination as associated with GIS projects.
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of biological/environmental Project Management experience, including a proven track record to meet project deadlines with the ability to prioritize, organize, delegate, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
History of managing a large team and multiple projects at the same time. Creating and developing budgets, tracking budgets over term of project, and maintaining clear and consistent communication with client.
Ability to create RFP’s and RFQ’s in a timely and professional manner. Strong ability with presentation of materials; formatting, editing and creating visually appealing submissions.
Familiarity with guidelines established by state, federal, and other oversight agencies to conduct studies that evaluate potential impacts to biological resources, particularly in California.
Exceptional analytical, visual, written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.
Complete capacity to work remotely. Including reliable internet connection, computer, and proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint).
Ability to travel overnight when needed to support field study development, data collection, and attend company, client, and agency meetings.
Degree in Biological science or commensurate related experience with demonstrated GIS training or coursework. Additional technical training or equivalent experience in computer science a plus.

Multi-tasking; Ability to respond to clients and team while working on large reports and focused office duties.
Ability to adapt to changing conditions; responsive to last minute requests and changing situations.
Flexibility with work hours. Biology is not a 9-5 business, being available nights and weekends when necessary is a plus.
Experience managing and analyzing GIS data in support of biological or environmental studies and technical report preparation.
Familiarity with various forms of spatial data management including file geodatabases and SQLite databases. Additional experience with enterprise geodatabase development and management using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL a plus.
